Pressure Sore Lawsuit Settled by Michigan Nursing Home Attorney

Our Michigan nursing home neglect  lawyers recently settled a case against an Oakland County Hospital and Rehabilitation Center  for a patient who suffered a Stage 4 pressure sore while in-patient for rehabilitation. The lawsuit alleged that the medical facility was negligent for failing to properly recognize, diagnose and treat a pressure ulcer that developed on the patient’s buttocks and coccyx.  The patient was in an auto accident and suffered a fracture to his femur bone and was admitted to the hospital for  surgery and rehabilitation.   Despite the patient’s immobility from the surgery,  the nurses and health care providers failed to properly turn and move the patient allowing him to developed a large pressure ulcer.

In addition, the failure to timely treat the pressure sore caused it to increase in size and become infected.  As a result, it required an extensive flap surgery to heal the wound.  As a result of the medical negligence, the patient was forced to undergo an otherwise unnecessary surgery and has left him with a significant scar.   There were significant medical expenses and hospitalization expenses incurred due to the pressure sore and related treatment.

Our Michigan nursing home neglect attorneys filed the pressure sore lawsuit in the Oakland County Circuit Court in Pontiac, Michigan.  Shortly after serving the lawsuit on the hospital, we were contacted by the hospital attorney to discuss whether we could settle the case before engaging in expensive and lengthy litigation.   After engaging in settlement discussions, we were able to settle the case .  The amount of the settlement is subject to a confidentiality agreement.
